I am Francisco Pereira and our noble quest is to make Linderman Quiet Again! Before going into details of this newsletter I should probably explain how this all began.

The Story Begins…

I am a junior here and this has been my first semester truly studying in Linderman. When coming to the school I had always been told that this Library was the quiet library where people could work in peace.

Now anyone who spends anytime in there knows its quite the opposite. Sure when there is just a few people it might be nice, but when that number grows the library enters the depths of the jungle! Phone calls, loud talking at the tables, yelling in the hallways . Oh, what a nightmare indeed. So since the beginning of the year the goal was to instill some common sense to this place (it seems this may have gotten me a bit of a reputation).

I mean honestly, am I crazy or isn’t a library, especially Linderman, supposed to be quiet for all the students there? Now if the issue were only some loud students, it could be solved quite quickly, however the problem is much worse than it first appeared, for it is imbedded into the very system itself.

The Student Workers

As the weeks went by, I was confused by the lack of action of the student librarians quieting any of the people coming in. What was worse is that most had earbuds in. How could manage the noise if you can’t even hear? And when the earbuds were out they were chatting with each other as the front desk as if were a table at Saxby’s where they were sipping a cup of joe.

Maybe I am living in the dark ages, but isn’t the goal of a librarian to keep the library quiet so the rest of us could work? I went up to ask what was going on and if they could calm things down, and they looked at me with such shock as if I had appeared by a bolt of lighting before them, and what I asked for were in a foreign dialect.

All I am asking is to keep the library quiet. Not burn down a building, pilfer the school’s coffers, or start a world revolution, just keep the library quiet so we can have a place away from the noise of everyday life to work in peace. Is that so radical?

The more important question however, is who is training these raw recruits, and that is when the next layer of the onion began to reveal itself.

The Librarians

I soon began to notice that some of the loudest talkers in the library were the librarians themselves. What type of dystopian reality is this? Librarians belting in the library? Are we next to expect pigs to fly?

And when I asked the librarians if they could keep it down to respect our time, the reaction received was worse than before. It was a look of such disgust as if I were some measly little beggar trying to make demands of the king. Instead of any consideration I was told to grovel in some upstairs corner and just care about myself.

Now for most in this individualistic materialistic age where all that matters is one’s own carnal pleasure, that may have been an an acceptable answer, but not for I and not for you my noble readers who know that there is a greater purpose in life. One of honor, of duty, of justice. To ascend the plains of mere mortality and make our mark on the world.

So, I did not run with a tail between my legs and instead demanded to speak to the head of this band of vagabonds for he must see reason. All we are trying to do is have library be quiet. Is that so much to ask for?

Grab your popcorn for the plot thickens. The milk has begun to turn to cheese. There I opened the door to the Director of Linderman, Mr. Boaz…to be continued this Sunday.

Other Information

The plan is to post on this newsletter 1 to 2 times a week to let you know what is going on with Linderman. Feel free to give any suggestions / critiques. I will be making available the data from the survey as all the recorded conversations I either through a Google Drive or this website. Also This is my first time doing a newsletter, so I do apologize if it is a little rough around the edges, and I will do my best to improve it.

Your humble servant, Francisco Pereira
